Ultrasound Associates in the Community
Ultrasound Associates is proud of its long history of community participation. Each year since 2003, Ultrasound Associates Women’s Imaging Center has helped sponsor the City of Alexandria’s Walk to Fight Breast Cancer. As an ongoing part of this community event, we perform free mammograms and breast sonogram studies throughout the year for area residents in need.
Staff contributions are also raised monthly to support a wide variety of local and national service organizations and charities. These include the following organizations:
- Alexandria Domestic Violence Program
- American Heart Association-Greater Washington Region
- The Down syndrome Foundation
- The Fisher House
- St. Jude’s Hospital
- Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation
- Whitman-Walker Foundation
- Women to Women International
- Virginia Special Olympics
- The Y-Me National Breast Cancer Organization (now Known as Network of Strength of the Mid-Atlantic)
In addition, each year since 2005 until 2010, we have adopted an Army platoon in Iraq and Afghanistan to receive seasonal holiday gift boxes, gifts, letters and cards during their deployment. Army 2nd PLT/A CO/3 BSTB/3 IBCT/25th was our first adopted Platoon. “Boots for Our Troops” was our 2005 fundraising slogan since the two things our first Platoon wanted most was comfortable footwear and iPods. We Succeeded! In December 2006, all 32 soldiers received new Oakley combat boots and iPods.
Alexandria’s 18th Annual Walk to Fight Breast Cancer-October 22, 2011
Alexandria’s 18th Annual Walk to Fight Breast Cancer will be held on October 22, 2011. All proceeds from The Walk are used to provide free mammograms to uninsured women or those in financial need.
This year marks the ninth year Ultrasound Associates has participated in this event helping to raise funds and contribute free mammograms to area women in need. Ultrasound Associates was once again presented with an appreciation award for its contribution of free mammograms at the Annual Appreciation Breakfast held in conjunction with the Walk.
In 2011 Ultrasound Associates will again conduct its annual raffle of baskets filled with a wide assortment of items manufactured (in pink) to commemorate Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
